Inspiring the next generation of females in STEM

Historically, women were considered mentally inferior and were largely blocked from professional fields of STEM. More recently, women have made considerable progress in bridging the gender gap in STEM and many have been recognized for their talent, ideas, and discoveries. However, according to the UNICEF Office of Global Insight and Policy:

"Fewer girls than boys aspire to careers in science, technology, or engineering, even among top performers. Gender gaps in STEM engagement, interest, enjoyment, and future career aspirations are shaped by gender norms, bias, and stereotype(s)."

Thus, it is crucial that aspiring women in STEM are introduced to current female professionals in several fields of STEM at various stages in their careers, to not only show them what is possible but to encourage them to pursue their own STEM interests with passion.

This is the purpose of our Women in STEM Conferences.

Compared to men, women in STEM are:
  • Underrepresented: women make up only 38% of the STEM workforce

  • Underpaid: women's annual salaries are nearly $15,000 less

  • Stereotyped: women outnumber men primarily in lower-paying fields of STEM due to inaccurate biases regarding skill level and capability

  • Underestimated: girls' mathematical and scientific abilities can be hindered by false beliefs that often emerge from early experiences

  • Unsupported: girls often have fewer female role models to inspire them

To close the STEM gender gap, we start by introducing girls to current female professionals in STEM; not only to show them what is possible, but also to encourage them to achieve their own goals.
According to UNICEF (2020):
Globally, 18 percent of females in tertiary education are pursuing STEM studies, compared to 35 percent of males.

Women comprise about 40 percent of the STEM workforce and are underrepresented in engineering and technology jobs.
